Engagement Story
Alright, here's how it all happened (from Gregg's point of view). March 23rd (Easter and my Birthday) was our 1-year "Loveaversary" (one year since we first said "I love you") and my parents were in town (from Missouri) for a short stay - I had scheduled their visit 2 months prior anticipating the proposal, but Kelley had no idea. On the 24th, I took the day off from work, which Kelley thought was merely to spend some time with my parents who she thought would be flying out that evening - we would take them to the airport but they never actually went home(!). I had a great day with my parents, but the event of the day was going to pick up the engagement ring that had just arrived at the store 2 days prior.
We planned to celebrate our Loveaversary in Seattle on the 24th after taking my parents to the airport to return home - we dropped them off, kissed them goodbye, and then Kelley's parents picked them up to meet us at the engagement party (hope she says yes). To celebrate, I created a tour of our relationship complete with a soundtrack and tour map (with a surprise ending). We went around the town and visited all the major points in our relationship including: where we met, where I first asked her out, our first serious talk, and more. We ended the Magical Mystery tour in a place we had never been before, a place I hoped (I knew) would signify the start of a new beginning - the beginning of our lives together - down the street from the famous Kerry park, in a nice little garden. I asked her to turn the tour map to the last page where she saw a mystery cryptogram, as she held up the "cipher", I got down on my knee and asked her if she would be my wife. She said yes, I cried (she didn't, but I new she was flabergasted), and I then proceeded to put the ring on the wrong hand!
Now the fun begins. Remember my mention of my parents going to the engagement party? I had to keep her, in all her excitement, from quickly calling all of her friends. We rushed over to our friends' apartment to surprise the new bride-to-be with a party with our great friends and our great parents. She was completely blown away as her friends greeted her with a "surprise" and we all hung out and shared the story with our loved ones. Thank You to everybody who helped make it happen!
P.s. a little note to all the guys who will propose to their girlfriends, no matter how much you "know" they will say yes, you will still get nervous. Oh, and nothing goes exactly how you planned :-)
